Dancers Duty of care and Safety within dance

we at dance force united ensure to practice effective, efficient and safe dance instruction. However, it is of the utmost importance and duty that dancer’s learn to adopt a diligent and safe duty of care and practise within their dancing, in an effort to avoid any injuries and potentially harmful behaviour to one’s self and/or fellow class mates.

warm-up and cool- down

Dancer’s must be punctual! arriving with adequate warm-up time. Although we aim to warm-up in class, it is still a dancer’s duty to ensure they are 100% warm prior to undertaking any class (most specifically when one has had a break or a member of the C&P Team class), the same goes for the cooling down period.

learn to analyse proper instruction/ spatial awareness

observe all instruction, especially when related to any such movement that has not been previously given or practised. learn to practise spatial awareness and be conscientious of those around you. please respect the rights of others to be taught and to learn, and do your best to support each other during challenging dance activities.

it is important to learn awareness of self and body - it is imperative to notify your dance instructor whether you have an injury or whether you have been advised by a qualified medical practitioner to implement modifications. learn to apply and adapt these to your own dance practise or in the case where you may not be sure, ask for help in modifications for exercises that you may find overly difficult. each day comes with different challenges and it is important to listen to our bodies. Please note - any modifications applied will not qualify as an excuse for poor body conditioning and/or exempt you from a lazy or undesirable attitude toward your dance training. Regardless, A concerted effort will still be required of you or alternatively you may be asked to take the suitable time required for injury purposes, until such time in which you are able to return and practice conscientious dance training.

void of accidents

Prior to your dance training please ensure the floor is clear of any obstacles - dance bags, shoes, coats, water bottles etc..

Dancer’s Risk

as previously mentioned dance force united do our best to maintain and practise industry level dance instruction and practises whilst continually working toward a happy and safe physical and psychological dance environment. however, due to the nature of dance and the expectancies of dancers within this art form, each step onto the dance floor is considered to be at your own risk. therefore considered most important that we learn to train in a safe, efficient, healthy and happy manner for that of yourself and your fellows.

body conditioning

always do you best to maintain healthy body conditioning - the athleticism and atypical range of movement required of dancer’s in today’s industry provide reasonable challenges and continual risks within the art form. Dance force united offers a free technique and conditioning class to all dance Force United students. make the most of this class given and ensure to practise the exercises as part of a regime in order to best create habit.

nutrition, water and lunch breaks

maintenance of the dancer’s body, mind and spirit is essential. this includes proper and correct nutrition including hydration - elements all aiding the longevity of a dancer’s career. please ensure to have sufficient food and water in accordance to your dance schedule, 500ml of water for a day of dance is simply inadequate. in the event in which you have not had sufficient water or lunch breaks - please put your hand up and ask for one! we simply cannot keep tabs on everyone’s thirst or hunger level, however this does not prompt for a tea party during dance class and we ask that you use common sense as to when will be most suitable to have your breaks in accordance to your dance schedule, the same goes for toilet breaks - please just ask!
